About Us/Company Info
This site is presnted to you by Whole Health America. It is designed to help you to learn about natural health care and to help you find a natural health care practitioner in your area. Doctors wishing to be listed on this site should contact us as mail@wholehealthamerica.com. You can link to the website of one of our practitioners and see even more health information. Whole Health America was founded in 2004 for the purpose of helping patients learn about natural health care. Currently health care in the United States costs $2 trillion each year. This figure could be drastically reduced if people learned about and took responsibility for staying healthy. Natural health care, whether it is chiropractic, nutriton, acupuncture or naturopathy, is about fixing the body's infrastructure. You don't treat disease so much as you promote health. If everyone took this approach, our health care costs would be drastically reduced.

Symptoms & Conditions /Skin
In general, traditional medicine does not recognize that dietary factors can have anything to do with acne. Recent research appearing in Clinical & Experimental Dermatology (2006; 31(3): 430-3) may show that there is a nutrient connection. In the study, 100 subjects who were recently diagnosed with acne were compared to 100 healthy controls. The subjects with acne had lower serum concentrations of vitamins A and E when compared to the subjects without acne. Also, subjects with severe acne had much lower serum concentrations of the two nutrients than subjects with mild acne. More health information is available. The idea was to treat the 10 subjects with multiple natural therapies, including chelation, nutrition, environmental control, behavioral therapy, speech therapy, physical therapy and educational therapy. The subjects were aged 4-10 and had been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and with ADHD. They were treated with a comprehensive program of natural therapies for 3-6 months. The results were judged by doctors, teachers and parents and all ten children demonstrated significant improvement in language skills, writing, behavior and social interaction. Also, urinary lead levels dropped in all of the subjects.

Symptoms & Conditions /Allergies
The concept of the addictive allergy is based on the ideas of Theron Randolph, MD. Dr. Randolph looked at allergies in an entirely new way. Here are some of his ideas. •    A person can take up to 72 hours to react to an offending food. •    Food allergies can cause symptoms of chronic conditions and seem to have nothing to do with consuming the offending food. Symptoms like migraine headaches, sinusitis, eczema, digestive problems, asthma, and obesity are examples of the problems caused by hidden food allergies. •    People with food allergies are commonly addicted to the food that is causing their health problem. •    Commonly, when the offending food is avoided, the individual's symptoms become worse initially. Symptoms usually flare up for 4 or 5 days, but this reaction can last longer. After the reaction passes the individual will feel much better—chronic symptoms disappear, energy increases and excess weight begins to come off.

Symptoms & Conditions /Allergies
By John Rosenbaum Click here to see John Rosenbaum's web site What is known as “sulfur sensitivity” is sensitivity to sulfites (SO3), not sulfates (SO4). The sulfites are highly reactive and toxic, and often used to kill bacteria, and molds on foods, drinks (wine), etc, whereas sulfates are safe non-toxic components for protein structure, detoxification, and enzyme activity (see below). Sulfite sensitive patients will not react to sulfates so they can safely use Purified Chondroitin Sulfate, glucosamine sulfate, etc. They will be pleased to know that most sulfite sensitivities can be resolved by including molybdenum in the diet.

Symptoms & Conditions /Alzheimer's & Dementia
The lowest incidence of Alzheimer’s disease in the world is in villages in India. Only about 1% of Indians over the age of 65 get the disease. Curcumin is an antioxidant found in turmeric. Turmeric is a perennial plant, botanically related to ginger that is native to India, China and Indonesia. It is a component of curry powder and prepared mustard. It is used in traditional Chinese medicine and in Indian (Ayurvedic) medicine for its anti-inflammatory properties. So, perhaps the consumption of curry may be the reason that there are so few cases of Alzheimer’s disease. Curcumin, found in turmeric, has been shown to fight the build up of the amyloid plaques found in Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Sally Frautschy, of the University of California, Los Angeles, presented these findings at the 2005 annual meeting of the Society for Neuroscience in San Diego, California. Her paper was entitled: Curcumin Reduces Oxidative Damage and Amyloid Pathology in an Alzheimer Transgenic Mouse.

Symptoms & Conditions /Alzheimer's & Dementia
Eat your vegetables and protect yourself from dementia. Vegetables are high in folic acid; the word “folic’ comes from the word “foliage”. Adequate folic acid levels may protect you from dementia. The most common form of dementia is Alzheimer’s disease, affecting about 13 million people worldwide. By mid century the prevalence of Alzheimer’s disease is expected to quadruple.

For more articles on this and other health topics, click on the link to go to our practitioners' directory and link to a web site that is loaded with information: Practitioners' Directory     This is the transcript of a tape produced by nutritionist Joe Buishas. Toward the end of the tape Mr. Buishas makes a specific product recommendation. We have left the transcript unchanged—complete with the product recommendation. This is such a good explanation of joint care and repair that it should be presented in its entirety. The products Mr. Buishas mentions are very good, but there are many other fine glucosamine and chondroitan products. Copies of the tape (or CD are available)              Almost all people over the age of forty have some pathological changes in the weight-bearing joints. The Merck Manualof Diagnosis and Therapy goes on to state that osteoarthritis becomes universal by age 70. Over 22 million people spend over 20 billion dollars each year to relieve their pain and suffering. Knees, hands, wrists, elbows, shoulders, hips, ankles, bones in the feet, and over 200 bone surfaces in the back are all prey to degenerative changes in the joints. Clearly this is a huge problem and yet there are many things we can do to prevent and even reverse osteoarthritis.

Symptoms & Conditions /Alzheimer's & Dementia
The risk for developing dementia may have something to do with the type of fats and oils in the diet. Research appearing in the Archives of Neurology (2006; 63(11)" 1545-50) looked at 899 elderly subjects who were free of dementia (76 years median age) and followed them for an average of just over nine years. During the course of the study, 99 subjects developed dementia (71 of which had Alzheimer’s disease). Those with high plasma DHA (docosahexaenoic acid, an omega-3 fatty acid) had a reduced risk of developing dementia. Other research appearing in The Journals of Gerontology Series A: Biological Sciences and Medical Sciences (2007; 62(10): 1120-6) also found a connection between low omega-3 fatty acid levels and dementia. A study in the Annals of Neurology (1997;42(5):776-782) looked at fat intake in the diets of 5,386 subjects without dementia. Fish consumption was inversely related to the incidence of dementia. Dementia increased with increased intake of saturated fat and cholesterol. Click here to find a practitioner with a website loaded with more health information

Healthy Living/Women's Health Issues
Research appearing in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine (February 2009, 15(2): 129-132) compared the effect of ginger, mefenamic acid and ibuprofen on the pain of dysmenorrheal. The subjects of the study were 150 students over the age of 18 suffering from primary dysmenorrheal. They were divided into three groups and given 250 mg of ginger rhizome powder, 250 mg of mefenamic acid or 400 mg of ibuprofen. They took the dosage four times each day for three days; beginning with the start of their menstrual period. Dysmenorrhea symptoms decreased in all groups, and there was no difference in the amount of relief experienced by the women taking the herb and the women taking drugs. Ginger was as effective as the drug therapies, and was free of side-effects.

Technique/Chiropractic
The Council on Chiropractic requires 4,200 hours of education. The chiropractic colleges require between 4,800 hours and 5,200 hours for graduation (depending on the college). The average total number of hours of anatomy, biochemistry, microbiology, public health, physiology, and pathology taught in the chiropractic schools is a little over 1,400. In three medical schools sampled, it was around 1,200. Chiropractors spend a significant amount of time with hands-on learning of adjusting and other manual therapy (a little under 2,000 hours on average). They must also spend time in a clinical internship. To quote the American Chiropractic Association, “Doctors of chiropractic — who are licensed to practice in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and in many nations around the world — undergo a rigorous education in the healing sciences, similar to that of medical doctors. In some areas, such as anatomy, physiology, rehabilitation, nutrition and public health, they receive more intensive education than their MD counterparts.”
